ENGLISH COMPETITION WINNERS

Theresa Lacey's freshman and sophomore English classes recently created a graphic analogy by comparing a sentence to a car. Lacey said her students learned that adjectives were like a car's headlights since they "light up" the sentence with description. Nouns were compared to the car's engine since they are the most important part, while verbs were seen as tires since they "move" the sentence along with action words. The lesson was taught to illustrate and help the student remember the function of words in a sentence. Afterward, the students drew and diagramed their "cars," which were then judged by Bryant Baggett's advanced art class. From left, are, Patrick King, Taylor Gaston, Emily Hahn, Hunter Harrington, and John Haley. These students' artwork was judged to be the best. Each of the winners was presented with Burger King gift cards.
