ONE-CENT RALLY SET FOR SUNDAY IN FOLEY
Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Students, faculty members and others who are in favor of the one-cent sales tax proposal to help fund the Baldwin County School System for three years are encouraged to meet at the Foley High football field this Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in order to march through Foley to the city's park and pavilion for a rally.

A vote on the measure has been scheduled by the Baldwin County Commission on March 23 all across the county. School administrators have said that unless the one-cent sales tax passes a number of teachers and support personnel will lose their jobs as other tax revenues, which go to fund the system, are down due to the recession.

At stake are not only the jobs of educators from each of the systems schools, but an expected drop in revenues for the county's economy.

Recently, Dr. David Bronner, head of the Retirement Systems of Alabama, said that unless the tax passed the local economy could experience a negative impact.

Those who are planning to march are encouraged to wear their school colors.
